Our Story

How it all started...

In 1939, a godly man by the name of Reverend C.J. Jones and his lovely wife, First Lady Florence Jones, came to the Belaire Cove community and met with men and women who were eager to serve the Lord and organize an assembly. The first worship services were conducted in the home of Brother Alcin Pete Bellard. A short time later, Brother Orise Bellard and Brother Manzy Watson located the parcel of land which the church currently rests upon, and a new facility was built. Under his leadership, Pastor C.J. Jones organized a deacon and deaconess ministry, a choir, an usher ministry, and a Sunday school ministry.

After the death of Reverend C.J. Jones, Reverend Freddie Durgin was elected pastor. Under this leadership a youth ministry was formed. Pastor Freddie and First Lady Mary Durgin worked faithfully with the Sunday school and youth ministries.

Reverend L.T. Thomas and his wife, First Lady Wiona Thomas succeeded the Durgins. Pastor Thomas preached the gospel so that everyone could hear of Jesus Christ, know of His goodness, and see His works in the lives of people. Under this leadership, a mission ministry, male chorus, bible study, prayer band, and junior usher ministry were formed. The Thomas’ continued steadfastly until Pastor Thomas’ retirement.

Reverend L.T. Thomas’ son, Reverend Aristelle Thomas and his wife, First Lady Kenyata Thomas, succeeded him as Pastor. Under this leadership, a praise dance team, mid-week service, a health fair, a transportation ministry and prison ministry were formed. An annual fun day and weekly Sunday worship service were also established. In 2010, God called Reverend Alristelle Thomas and his wife to lead another flock.

Thereafter, God prepared another godly man to lead the assembly, in the person of Minister Efrem Skinner along with his wife, Sister Leisa Skinner. Minister Skinner preached the gospel, and helped guide the people of Macedonia through the process of selecting its next pastor.

In March of 2011, through much prayer and patience, the congregation gathered and elected Reverend Terryl A. Jackson and First Lady J. “Betsy” Jackson. Pastor Jackson carries the torch of the rich legacy of leaders of the Macedonia Baptist Church. Under this leadership, a junior deacon ministry, media ministry and women’s praise dance ministry were formed, and the re-branding of the brotherhood ministry to the Macedonia Men occurred. Physical expansion and remodeling of the existing building have continued throughout Pastor Jackson’s tenure, with a God-given vision of more to come.

By the grace of God and through the teaching and preaching of His Word, Macedonia continues to grow spiritually, physically and financially. Macedonia stands as a sentinel, pointing men, women, boys and girls, to the heavenly way. She strives to practice the tenants of Matthew 6:33 as “Kingdom Seekers”. She further strives to be a living monument of a risen Savior who died that all of mankind might live. It is because Jesus lives that Macedonia can say and demonstrate, “We Love You to Life!”
